Jöns is assessed for BCU 4 Star Leader Sea Kayak (2015) in Anglesey, 3 Star Sea Kayak (2007) on Isle of Man, Coach Level 2 and trained for BCU 4 Star Sea (2008, 2015). He is also assessed for NIL assistant instructor (Hjälinstruktör, 2008). He has a past in K1, K2 and K4 flatwater competion kayaking on a national level since 1971 to 1980. He also gives kayaking classes and shows on a regular basis, as well as designs and builds kayaks, He has been trained on Wilderness First Aid. He holds a marine VHF-radio operators certificate. He speaks fluent Swedish, Finnish, English and has skills in German, and basics of French.
